Get Your Boots Wet- AAR- Payne

Rain. They never really tell you how pissing wet it really is in boot. Sure we’ve all seen pipes leak, vents spray water or the anti-fire sprinklers kick in but the shear amount of fluid that came out of the sky beggars belief.

We advanced from our comfortable outpost on a new mission to secure a facility. It rained. A lot. I’m not looking forward to this ‘Snow’ in whatever form that takes. Our first objective was to set up a communications array for relaying to Bunker. This mostly involved us standing on guard whilst the engineers tried not to blow themselves up. I was tasked to stay on rear guard whilst the main body moved off to secure the facility. Once the communications array was established, we proceeded to join the main body at the facility. I report no hostile contacts and only one incident of taking fire, presumably from a trigger happy FNP.

On arrival at the facility, the engineers and scientists had mostly got all systems operational. After nourishment an investigation was performed into some form of dream ‘suicide’ machine which involved several simulation tests. My judgement of this system is it was written by the kind of scientists you see in all those old movies, you know…the type that are immediately torn apart by their creations and only their gristly remains left for some unwitting future keeno scientists to discover and unleash upon the earth. We did claim the facility in the name of Bunker Ascendant and name it ‘Fort Leon’. An extremely dangerous place making highly volatile fluid…it’s what he would have wanted. Still no grenades.

Day 1- The Fortening.

In the wake of the destruction of the hive it was time to negotiate with some of the surface dwellers for who got what bits of what. Our mission was to go and bring the leader of the clans back, a Raze. We encountered some hostiles who we later discovered to be from another Bunker- Fortitude. They engaged us supported by some local tribe who had 3 bolts joined in a triangle necklace and we gunned all those fucks down. We then met some ‘Religious’ folks who worshipped some gods. We also encountered some FEF who had looted some of the technology that they worship. Bit too much like politics for me so I swiftly detailed them to speak to a Bureaucrat. We found this Raze and took him back. Some more hostiles tried to assault the new position but some red hot nanites to the face sorted them out. Still no grenades.

I had patrol for several hours and some routine armoury maintenance. By the time I returned it was time for mission to take out a key tribal leader and it was starting to get dark. Once bunker had established our intel for the mission and confirmed target location we proceeded on mission, Quinn, Hawk, Tower, Chigwell, Fredrickson and myself. After skirting the first patrol Quinn and Tower split off to try to locate the target with the second squad forming up to cover once engaged. The target was considerably further away and second squad broke off their cover to move up to the first squad. After travelling through dense undergrowth and around several patrols their ritual and religious leader was located. This site was well lit and they performed some sacrifice. Once the target was confirmed all parties opened fire. The target was kill confirmed and all soldiers began their exfiltration back to the facility. Still no grenades.

Day 2- Up yours fortitude

2 missions today. One to secure some crazy scientist who escaped the lower facility levels (not my idea of fun) or go and smash up one of fortitude’s outposts, steal all their trousers and shit in their kettle.

We set out on line to assault their output and encountered multiple hostile patrols on route. I took the high ground with Avery, Hawk and Wayne and advanced in parallel with the main group. After flushing out some enemies from undergrowth we took up overwatch positions in support of the main advance. Once multiple hostiles were defeated Ascendant forces lined up for the final push on the outpost. All FEF forces rallied and pushed on this. Some person rocked up in a suit of augmented armour but was soon murderised by concentrated fire and neat work by the rail gunners. We got in, sacked the place and planted an explosive device which I am happy to report went off correctly.
Still no grenades.
