Uplink 1 :: Mutant Activity — Floral Harvest Operation

Observed Entity: Super Mutant force, estimated 85% mutation index (formerly Helliate clan).
Action Detected: Harvesting of brightly coloured floral growths.
Biological Hazard: Floral organisms emit pulsed spores upon proximity triggers (movement / sound / thermal signature).
Incident: Medic incapacitated following airborne contamination.
Analysis: Spore release demonstrates adaptive defense trigger.
Contamination vector shows commonality with Super Mutant bio-signature.

Uplink 2 :: Chemical Hazard — C7 Barrel Breach

Observed Incident: Storage barrel designated C7 breached, chemical substrate leaking.
Security Detail: Area actively guarded by Super Mutants.
Assessment:
C7 substance unidentified; containment protocols compromised.
Guarding behaviour suggests value recognition by Super Mutant

Uplink 3 :: Super Mutant Worship Site

Site Features:
Defensive perimeter maintained by limited Super Mutant presence.
Shrine zone with skeletal remains and psychic body missing head.
Offerings arranged at campfire (suggesting ritual).
Anomalous Event:
Operative Callum exposure → unconscious state after shrine inspection.
Presence of oppressive force detected; shrine watched by external entity – potential ancestor force.
Vision experienced by Callum (details pending debrief).

Uplink 4 :: Salvage / Binary Artefact

Discovery: Large salvage deposit + device containing binary code within central crater of hill formation.
Analysis: Binary stream indicates possible machine transmission. (details pending debrief).
Threat Vector:
Hostile sniper unit with high-powered weapon observed.
Operative unable to visually confirm — sniper remains unidentified and active. (PRIME confirms Tango appears to be Ex-FEF Operative A. Dancer)

Uplink 5 :: Bromil Village Report

Population: Friendly, cooperative.
History: Previously captured for conversion by Super Mutants; survivors escaped.
Destination: Relocating to Avery settlement.
Assessment: Bromil survivors carry salvage for trade.

Uplink 6 :: Village “The Well”

Findings: Presence of Super Mutant force.
Ascendant PADD device located and currently undergoing hostile hack. File received — referral required (Details pending debrief – Operative declared Sally, Crow, Malice for decryption).
Casualties: Village devastated by violent incursion.
Signs of large clawed organism forced through settlement. Unknown classification.
Assessment: Mutants not sole hostile presence? — secondary apex predator confirmed. Recommend containment cordon of area.

Uplink 7 :: Graveyard Site

Observed Graves:
“NED”
“SHANNON + FORTITUDE” (marked with flowers, empty can — ritualized offering)
“A. BRENNER”

Assessment:
Small but maintained grave site → indicator of non-mutant survivor presence.
Grave markers suggest respected individuals / past casualties of note or promise of future casualties.
(PRIME confirms work to be of Ex-FEF Operative A. Dancer)

Uplink 8 :: Encounter Log — Jimmy’s Tours

Subject: “Jimmy,” flamboyant male, red patched coat, West Yorkshire origin.
Profile: Armed with sword, highly performative manner.
Purpose: Approached operatives after hearing of Vulcan Facility acquisition.

Service Offering:
Local guide service (“Treasure House” tour).
Rates: ≤10 personnel: standard, ≥11 personnel: improved rate.
Cost: 1 salvage per individual (return ×3 guaranteed).
Retainer Fee: 1 CRAT salvage.
Next scheduled meeting: Tuesday, same coordinates.

Behavioural Note: Displays hunger, consumes beyond provisioned resources.
Assessment: Opportunist with local intelligence/Utility uncertain; reliability threshold medium.

Combat with super mutants – an analysis

By Franklin Clay

I’ve now fought super mutants multiple times with two very different weapons, and I’m putting down a few thoughts for any rookies hitting the surface in the near future.

Firstly, the standard issue assault rifle. The main issue here is that super mutants are not really like most other enemy combatants. Fighting other bunkers and the like, there’s a sense of self-preservation much like the FEF show under fire. Once the shooting starts you get into cover, shoot, move, shoot, move. Stay hidden, pick your targets. Super mutants don’t necessarily do that. Some of them will hide and shoot, some will even try to dig into sniper positions, but then you meet the butchers…

Butchers use melee weapons and big shields and they’ll charge in without the tiniest thought of the consequences. They’ll stick behind the shield, they’re at least smart enough for that, but they’ll wade in and take out an FEF soldier in a couple of axe swings. Standard firing from cover doesn’t cut it because you need to move more. Tree to tree works, firing as you move. Suppressing fire just plain doesn’t suppress these buggers one iota, so don’t waste your time. Shoot to hurt them.

Secondly, the DMR. High damage, very good at putting a super mutant down in only a handful of shots. The problem here is hitting the moving targets. Gradually, a lot of the soldiers (small s) in the FEF are moving towards snipers and DMRs. It made sense when we were picking single targets out in woodland, but for butchers in open ground it’s just nowhere near as efficient. After the last surface run I’m abandoning the DMR and moving over to an LMG because I think we need to go back to using heavy support weapons far more often. Using them as suppression tools isn’t going to do shit, but when there’s a field of super mutants running you down it’s going to spread the damage far and wide and sheer weight numbers means one round is finding its way past that damned shield. The current Major uses one, the two previous Majors used one, and if it’s good enough for them…

As the FEF starts to get better at structure and field command (all hail the spoon…) I feel we need to choose the right tool for the right job. A mix of assault rifles and LMGs for a good solid dose of the old spray ‘n’ pray, a handful of DMRs and snipers to pick out their snipers, and of course Captain Anthony Brenner to kick the shit out of everything that gets too close.
